CCM Hockey Equipment
CCM hockey equipment is a classic, beloved by fans and players alike. While the brand has been through ups and downs over the last 125 years — and is currently a subsidiary of Reebok — the quality of its products have never wavered. It's no surprise, then, that NHL pros still opt for CCM pro stock gear; the CCM label is always a popular draw.
CCM Hockey Gear: A Quick History
CCM (originally Canada Cycle and Motor Co. Ltd) got its start making bicycles in 1899. The market had largely collapsed, but CCM made ends meet until 1905, when the company began producing ice hockey skates using leftover steel in its automobile and bicycle manufacturing plants. CCM's big break came when it acquired the rights to the Tackaberry brand skates made by a craftsman of the same name in Manitoba. “Tacks,” as they were called, served as the company's signature skate line until 2006. By 1983, however the company was bankrupt and traded hands several times, ultimately ending up as a single brand managed by The Hockey Company, in turn bought by Reebok which retired all other brands except for CCM. Now the equipment manufacturer is once again enjoying the spotlight as a top-tier ice hockey outfitter.
CCM Hockey Equipment Used by NHL Stars
A number of NHL players use CCM hockey gear to give them an edge on the ice. There's John Tavares, first-round draft pick for the New York Islanders in 2009; Marian Hossa of the Chicago Blackhawks and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers. There's also Maxim Lapierre, formally of the Montreal Canadiens, who's never used anything but CCM skates. Now, he goes through 10 pairs of CCM U-plus skates every season, which works out to around one pair every eight games. He's also considered one of the fastest players on the ice, and has beaten more than a few defensemen to pucks they thought he had no chance to reach. Other big names in the NHL that have used CCM hockey gloves, CCM hockey sticks, and other gear: Sidney Crosby, Dustin Brown, Patrice Bergeron, Pavel Datsyuk, Steve Mason, Carey Price, Braden Holtby and Marc-Andre Fleury. We can’t guarantee that using Pro Stock Hockey authentic pro stock CCM gear will make you play as well as these gentlemen, but it will certainly be a step in the right direction!
